Log it when
it hits

one tap now, the rest later, or never

A flare that wakes you at three in the morning does not want a form. GoutMe asks for one tap: Tap now saves the moment and lets you go back to the ice pack. When you can think again, if you feel like it, you add which joint, how it feels, how bad it is and what helped. Everything after the tap is optional, and nothing is ever behind a paywall.

why log each flare?

In 724 people with gout followed online for a year, 1,433 flares were logged: the risk of a flare starting between midnight and 8 a.m. was 2.4 times the daytime risk.

One tap, and then whatever you want

The full log is a guided entry: Timing, Paint the picture, Symptoms, Severity, early signs, Triggers, Medicines, Reliefs, Locations, Activities, Afterwards, Missed activities, Notes and Review. Every page after the first can be skipped, and the pencil on the log lets you hide or reorder them for good. Quick Log on the Log tab is the short road: one tap for a flare, a trigger, an early sign, a medicine or a relief, with the time set to now.

A flare with nothing but a time counts for every statistic in the app. The rest is detail you add when you feel like it, including later from the Journal.

Days, not minutes

A gout flare builds over hours and lasts days, so the log is built around a start and an end rather than a stopwatch. Tap now starts it; the in-progress card on Home stays until you end it, and the Journal lets you set the end time afterwards. The duration is what the statistics use when they compare one flare with the next. Severity is a 1 to 10 slider from Mild to Severe, with a second reading if it changed, and Afterwards is its own page: peeling skin over the joint, lingering stiffness, lingering soreness, a tophus that looks bigger, drained.

Tell it in your own words

Paint the picture is the second page of the full log. Type or speak freely and the app picks out the joints, the symptoms, triggers, medicines and reliefs it recognises, and the severity if you mention one, for you to keep or remove. With Premium the AI reads the whole description; without it, the app matches the words it knows. The microphone is optional; without it you type.

When it is not gout

The app says it in its own copy and we say it here: a hot, swollen joint with a fever, feeling very unwell, or a joint that was recently injected or operated on can be an infected joint, which looks like gout and needs urgent care today. If you tick either of these during setup, the app says so plainly, and the AI says so whenever a message mentions them. GoutMe does not diagnose gout and cannot rule an infection out.

Where it lives in the app

Log Flare sits at the top of the Log tab and opens the guided entry: Timing with Tap now, Paint the picture, Symptoms, Severity, early signs, Triggers, Medicines, Reliefs, Locations, Activities, Afterwards, Missed activities, Notes, then Review. Under it on the Log tab, Quick Log holds one-tap flare, trigger, early sign, medicine and relief tiles, and the Daily Check-In. The pencil on the log lets you hide or reorder its pages. Past flares are in the Journal, where you can edit the start or set the end.

What it needs from you

A tap when it hits. Every other page is optional. You can also log from the GoutMe Apple Watch app. A late entry lands on the time you give it. Voice is optional; with Premium the AI reads your own words, without it the app matches the words it knows.

Questions

Can I log from my watch?

Yes, on Apple Watch. The GoutMe watch app logs a flare with one tap, lets you set how bad it is and end it, and shows your risk for today. Garmin, Oura, Polar and WHOOP data connect directly.

What if I log it later?

Change the time in the Journal. The statistics work on the time the flare started, not on when you typed it, so a late entry lands on the right night.

Is logging free?

Yes, all of it: the one-tap flare, the full log, Quick Log, voice and the Journal. Premium is the analysis layer, never the log.
